The thing I am proud

I belong to guide section of ESS which stands for English Speaking Society. This year I participated in ESS guide camp. I am proud of the things that I did during this camp. Therefore, I am going to write about those things.

At this camp, we went to Ninnaji temple in Kyoto. Then we asked foreign visitors to take part in our guide tour. Although some people declined our offer because of the lack of time, three Canadian men joined it. Therefore, we guided them around the temple. I was very nervous because I am not good at talk with stranger people, but three Canadian men were very kind and funny. Therefore I enjoyed talking with them and we became good friends. Since this camp, I have kept in touch with them. In short, I had a great experience, which makes me proud.  

The most urgent issue in Japan

          The most urgent issue Japan is facing is that Japan is an aging society with fewer children. I am going to write about the reasons why I believe so.

 

          First, young people must support so many people of advanced age. According to a research by the Cabinet Office of Japan, about one in four people is over sixty five years old now. Therefore, young people have to bear the heavy burden. For example, young people must pay much taxes or pensions to help the lives of old people. In other words, an aging society with fewer children makes young people have the heavy burden.

 

          Second, the number of people who will support the Japanese society in the future has been decreasing. Recently, many people don’t marry and have children, so the number of children has been decreasing. Therefore, Japan will suffer from lack of workers in the near future, which will make Japanese society decline. In short, Japan will have a great difficulty in the decrease in workers because of an aging society with fewer children.

 

          In conclusion, I believe the most urgent issue Japan is facing is an aging society with fewer children. We have to think about this problem more seriously and find a solution to the problem.

Having a boyfriend or girlfriend should make your life better?

I agree with the idea that having a boyfriend or girlfriend should make your life better. I’m going to write about the reasons why I think so.

 

First, having a boyfriend or girlfriend should enables you to make an effort for him or her. For example, one of my friends who got a boyfriend becomes more beautiful than before because she wants to be said that she is beautiful by her boyfriend. In addition, another friend of mine studied very hard to enter the same university as his boyfriend. In other words, having a boyfriend or girlfriend helps you become a better person for your boyfriend or girlfriend.

 

Second, having a boyfriend or girlfriend enables you to experience a lot of things which people who don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend cannot experience. For example, my brother who has a girlfriend plan to go to the Tokyo Disney Land on Christmas Day. However, I will work part-time on that day. Therefore, my brother will have a greater time than me. In short, by having a boyfriend or girlfriend, you can enjoy your life more than people who don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend.

 

             In conclusion, I agree with the idea that having a boyfriend or girlfriend should make your life better. Having a boyfriend or girlfriend helps you make efforts and experience enjoyable things. Therefore, I recommend getting a boyfriend or girlfriend.

My idea about starting learning a foreign language very early (TOEFL)

          I agree with the idea that children should start learning a foreign language very early. I am going to write about the reasons why I agree with.

          First, people can acquire a foreign language faster by starting learning it very early. Children tend to have a greater ability to learn than adults do, which makes it important to start learning early. For example, I have a ten-year old cousin who speaks English fluently. He started learning English when he was five years old. In other words, the earlier people start learning a foreign language, the faster they acquire it.

          Second, people can have more opportunities to talk with people from another country by starting learning a foreign language very early. For example, when I was in elementary school, I was spoken by foreign people. However, I did not talk with them at all because I had not learned English. If I had learned English earlier, I could have enjoyed talking with them. In short, learning a foreign language very early enables us to have more chances to talk with foreign people.

          In conclusion, I agree with the idea that children should start learning a foreign language very early. By doing so, people have chances to acquire the language and talk with foreign people. Although mother tongue is very important for children, they should start learning a foreign language very early.

the skills to succeed in the modern world

          There are many skills that a person should have in order to succeed in the modern world. In this essay, I am going to write about those skills.

 

          First, the most important skill to succeed in the modern world is communication skill. Nobody lives alone, so people have to communicate with each other. Therefore, communication skill is necessary. In addition, people with a communication skill get a lot of chances. For example, they tend to be promoted more often than people without a communication skill because they can get along with other people thanks to their communication skill. In other words, having a communication skill makes people succeed in the modern world.

 

         Second, a person should speak various languages in order to succeed in the modern world. Now, the world is in the age of globalization, so people have a lot of chances to talk with people from another country. Therefore, it is important to speak various languages. In addition, this skill is connected with the skill I said above. If people don’t speak a lot of languages, it is difficult to communicate with various people even if they have a great communication skill. In short, the language skill is one of important skills that a person should have to succeed in the modern world.

 

          In conclusion, the skills that a person should have to succeed in the modern world are communication skill and language skill.

Impacts of technology in family

          I disagree with the idea that technology helps us have a better communication in family. In this essay, I am going to write about the reasons why I disagree the idea.

 

          First, technology reduces our chance to have a face to face communication in family. People depend on technology to communicate with their family. For example, many people communicate with their family through technology such as cell phones although they are in the same house. Therefore, the number of people who are not good at taking with their family has been increasing. In other words, technology decrease an opportunity to have a face to face communication in their family.

 

          Second, people spend much time to use technology. Recently, many people have their own cell phone or computer, so they use them to exchange email with their friends or play games in their house. Therefore, they tend to have a less chance of talking with their family. In short, people use technology too much to talk with their family.  

 

          In conclusion, I disagree with the idea that technology helps us have a better communication in family. Although technology makes our lives more convenience, we have to reconsider how to use technology.

The way to enjoy a weekend

          What do you do on the weekend? I have a relaxing weekend, so let me tell you about the way to enjoy a weekend.

          In the morning, you should get up at 8 o’clock. You might think it’s too early, but we can do a lot of things by getting up early. Then, enjoy your breakfast. By doing so, you can be more energetic. In addition, I suggest you study in the morning because if you have done what you should do in the morning, you’ll feel more relaxed in the afternoon. In short, get up early and do what you have to do in the morning.

          Next, I’d like to suggest to you that you hang out with your friends. I think you will spend a great time with them. For example, you should go lunch and talk a lot, go shopping, go to karaoke or do anything you want to do with them. In other words, you should have a great time with your friends.

          Lastly, you should spend night with your family. Enjoy dinner and talk what you did last week, which enables you to feel comfortable. If you have a time, I suggest you to watch movie or TV together. To sum up, you should enjoy a relax time with your family.

          In conclusion, if you follow this schedule, you will have a great weekend.

My goal of this semester

          I have a goal of this semester that I score 70 on TOEFL test. I plan to make an effort to achieve this goal. Let me write about how I achieve the goal.

         

          First, I’ll go to World Plaza as many as possible to improve my English speaking skill. Last semester, I went there once a week, but this semester, I’ll go there at least twice a week. In addition, I want to go there with people who haven’t been there with me, which enables me to talk about various topics. In other words, I plan to go to World Plaza many times with various people.

          Second, I intend to watch the English news every day. It is hard for me to listen to English, so I want to improve my listening skill. Moreover, I can study the international situation by watching the news, which is useful to improve my writing skill. In short, I’ll watch the news in English every day.

          In conclusion, my goal of this semester is to score 70 on TOEFL test, and to achieve this goal, I plan to go to World Plaza and watch the news in English as much as I can. Although it is difficult for me to achieve the goal, I’ll make efforts and achieve the goal.

My summer vacation

          How was your summer vacation? I enjoyed this summer vacation very much. I am a member of guide section of ESS, so I took part in summer camp and guide section camp. Today, I am going to write about these camp.

 

          First, let me write about summer camp. This camp was for all members of ESS. ESS has five section; discussion, debate, speech, guide, and drama. In this camp, we experienced all section activities. During this camp, we had to speak only English, and if we spoke Japanese, the words we said were written on our face by our seniors. I enjoyed all activities, but I enjoyed drama activity the best. Our group performed “Ponyo on the cliff by the sea” and I acted Sosuke. I was glad that audience enjoyed our play. In short, my best memory of this summer vacation was summer camp.

 

          Second, I want to write about guide section camp. We went to Kyoto and we spoke to tourists from a different country, and guided them Ninnaji temple. Our group guided three Mexican men. They were very funny, so I enjoyed talking with them. Guide was very difficult for me, but I was happy that I became friends with them. In other words, guide summer camp was very fun.

 

          In conclusion, I participated in summer camp and guide section camp of ESS, and I enjoyed both of them very much.

The Help

          Today, I watched the movie “The Help”. I couldn’t watch it to the last, but I learned many things from it. Therefore, I am going to write about what I learned.

          First, I learned about discrimination. In this movie, white people treated black people terribly. For example, black people couldn’t use the same bathroom as white people. White people thought if black people used the same bathroom as white people, black people infected them with diseases. In short, white people had prejudice against black people and treated them terribly.

          

          Second, I learned about the importance of taking action. One white woman thought discrimination against black people was wrong, so she decided to write a book about it. As I said, I couldn’t watch the movie to the last, so I don’t know how things changed. However, I’m sure that her courage helped people to change their view. In other words, it is important to have the courage to take action.

          In conclusion, “The Help” taught me important things. I learned about discrimination and the importance of taking action.

Part-time job

          Recently, a lot of college students work part-time. I think college students should have a part-time job. In this essay, I am going to write about the reasons why college students should have a part-time job.

          First, college students should have a part-time job so as not to rely heavily on their parents. It costs a lot of money to attend university, but most students don’t pay tuition fee by themselves. Therefore, college students should pay money to hang out with their friends or eat lunch. By doing so, they reduce the burden of their parents. In short, college students should work part-time to become independent.

          Second, part-time job is a good experience for college students. Having a job means being responsible for their own job. Therefore, college students can learn how to do their duty through their job. In other words, part-time job is a good opportunity to learn how to do their job.

          In conclusion, college students should have a part-time job. Part-time job is useful to become independent and have a good experience. Although it is hard to work part-time  while attending university, part-time job is worth doing for college students.

My goals

          I attend Nanzan University. I have many goals I want to achieve during my college days. Today, I will tell you about two goals.

 

          First, I want to become a good English speaker. I have many English classes and I have to speak English. However, I am not good at speaking English. Therefore, I have to go to world plaza many times to improve my speaking skill. In short, one of my goals is to speak English fluently.

 

          Second, I want to become a person with wide vision. Now, I study English, but I will study a various kind of things in English. Therefore, it is important to focus on various aspect and to have a wide vision. In other words, I want to have a wide vision.

 

          In conclusion, my goals are to become a good English speaker and a person with wide view. I have to make an effort to achieve the goals.

About My Concern

          I have a lot of concern as a college student. Today, I am going to write about one of my concern and how I can make an effort to overcome it.

         

          First, let me tell you about what my concern is. I am concerned about my appearance. I have a baby face and I am short. Therefore, I look young for my age. For example, people sometimes say, “Are you a high school student?” I feel bad about this question. In short, I have a concern about my appearance.

        

          Second, I would like to write about how I make an effort to overcome my concern. I had my hair dyed and permed to change my appearance. Although my friends say that I still look young, I think I look older than before. In other words, I changed my hairstyle so as not to look young.

         

          In conclusion, I have a concern about my appearance. However, I am making an effort to change my appearance. Therefore, I will be able to overcome my concern.

My favorite class

          I attend Nanzan University. There are many good classes in this university. My favorite class is oral communication class. I’ll write about the reasons why I like this class.

          First, we have a good opportunity to speak English. We have to speak only English in this class. I am not good at speaking English, but I want to be a good speaker. Therefore, this class is useful for me. In short, I like oral communication class because I have a lot of chances to speak English.

          Second, I can make friends with people who take the same oral communication class as me. We have this class three times per week, so we can talk a lot with each other. Moreover we have to discuss a lot of things in this class. Therefore, we can know each other very well. In other words, we can make friends with many people in oral communication class.

          In conclusion, my favorite class is oral communication class. We can talk a lot and make friends in this class. I want to enjoy this class and improve my English skill.  

About my best friend

      It is fun for me to make friends with various people. I have a best friend. She is eighteen years old and a university student. She went to same high school as me. I am going to write about her.

      First, she likes basketball. She belonged to basketball club when she was a high school student. She was a captain. Although she was good at playing it, she practiced hard every day. Now, she belongs to a basketball circle at university and enjoy playing it. In short, she is very active.

      Second, she is a very good person. She is a lot of fun to be with. She always makes me laugh. Moreover, she is very kind for everyone. Whenever I feel bad, she always help me. Therefore, I like her very much.

      In conclusion, I have a very good friend. I want to make good friends with people who attend Nanzan University.

About Nanzan University

     I attend Nanzan University. There are many good points and bad points in this university. I’ll write about what I like and dislike about Nanzan University.

   
     First, I like Nanzan University because there are many students who want to improve themselves. Many students are good at speaking English. However, they want to improve their English skill and they make efforts. Therefore I am inspired to study hard. In short, students who attend Nanzan University are very good.

     Second, Nanzan University has many clubs or circles. There are various kind of clubs or circles. Therefore students can do anything they like. For example, I will belong to ESS. I want to improve my English skill and I want to make friends with people who belong to the club. In other words, Nanzan University is a good place do anything they like.

       Third, I dislike buildings in Nanzan University. They are very old and toilets are very dirty. I am uncomfortable whenever I go to the toilet. I wish all buildings were like R building. In short, buildings in Nanzan University are very old.

      In conclusion, there are good points and bad points in Nanzan University. However, I like this university. I want to enjoy my school life.

About my hobby

     I like playing volleyball. I’ll write about the reasons why I like volleyball.

     First, volleyball is team sport. It is important to cooperate with teammates because it has a rule that we must not touch the ball two consecutive times. Therefore we have to think with each other. In short, volleyball is the best sport to play with teammates.

     Second, we have to use our brain to play it. We need move before the ball comes to our court. Therefore we have to expect the motion of the ball. In other words, it is very interesting sport.

     In conclusion, volleyball is very exciting sport.  

My hometown

　   I was born and  live in Gifu. It is a good place to live in. I'll write about my hometown.

　　
     First, there are many mountains and rivers. For example, Nagara river is one of the most famous river in Gifu. It is famous for ‘ukai’. Ukai is a traditional way to fish with cormorants. Also Mt.Kinka is a beautiful mountain. There is a big castle in this mountain. In other words, Gifu has very beautiful nature.

     Second, there are many exciting festivals. For example, fire festival in my town is very exciting festival. People carry a portable shine and go into fire fall. Women cannot participate in this festival, but it is fun to see it. In short, Gifu is an exciting city.

     In conclusion, Gifu is a very good place. How about visiting Gifu?

Self Introduction

I’m going to write about myself. My name is Mai. I’m eighteen years old. I was born and live in Gifu. There are four members in my family. I have an older brother. My hobby is watching movies. My favorite movie is Harry Potter. I also like playing sports. I like volleyball. I belonged to volleyball club when I was in high school. I have played it for six years. However, I won’t belong to volleyball club at Nanzan university. I want to belong to ESS and improve my English skill. I studied English only for examination, so I am not good at speaking English. However, I want to make efforts and enjoy my school life.
